Overview

Cayman has a virtual-asset service provider regime administered by CIMA, and is the dominant jurisdiction for investment funds with institutional investors.

What it is good for

Fund structures with digital-asset exposure, and foundation companies used as token-project vehicles. Where the investor base is institutional, Cayman is often the only structure they will accept without argument.

What it costs

More than the alternatives, in both professional fees and ongoing obligations — audit, regulatory filings, and the economic substance regime. That premium buys investor acceptance, which for a fund is the whole point, and buys very little for a business that is not raising institutional money.

How it fits with the UAE

Commonly as the fund or token vehicle above a UAE-licensed manager or operating company. The management entity holds the UAE licence; Cayman holds the fund.

How we help

We advise on market access before a sales team is pointed at a country, document the basis on which clients in each market are accepted or refused, and build the controls that make that basis hold. Where a second licence is genuinely needed, we run it.

Questions fréquentes

  • Cayman or ADGM for a crypto fund?

Cayman if the investors are institutional and international, because that is what their operational due diligence expects. ADGM if the investors are regional and the manager wants everything in one jurisdiction. The investor base decides it, not the manager's preference.
